Run for kids like Remi

Two-year-old Remi Aaron was in a coma following surgery at a Mississippi hospital. Diagnosed with a neurological condition called Chiari malformation — in which brain tissues extend into the spinal canal — Remi had undergone a surgery to relieve pressure on nerves in her back.

Her parents, Courtney and Matthew, were scared and sought out other options. Their daughter was in critical condition and needed the care only Le Bonheur could provide.

Remi was rushed via ambulance to Le Bonheur and diagnosed with two strains of E.coli as well as meningitis. Luckily Remi’s care team at Le Bonheur’s world-renowned Neuroscience Institute had a plan.

After four days at Le Bonheur, Remi was stable enough for surgery. Doctors discovered her condition was worse than anticipated. The surgery was a success and a few days later, Remi was able to begin physical and speech therapies. Remi spent a month healing at Le Bonheur before going home with medications to manage the seizure caused by her condition and resources for her parents.

“Without Le Bonheur, Remi wouldn’t be here,” Matthew said. “Le Bonheur saved our daughter’s life, and we are so thankful.”

Today, 9-year-old Remi is thriving and returns to Le Bonheur every six months for a checkup.
